With 30 years of clinical experience, my ethos is to restore teeth using a minimally invasive, bio-inspired approach.
I am based in private practice in south Dublin. Here I can balance my love of nature with my passion for my work. On the staff of the Dept of Restorative Dentistry & Periodontology in the Dental School at Trinity College Dublin since 2000, I also teach internationally being a founder of mimétika, an educational programme for dentists in advanced adhesive dentistry.

A better way to manage caries
We now seek to avoid root canal treatment by using best practice approaches to managing dental decay (caries). By understanding how caries affects the tooth we can predictably reach an endpoint of removal and bond securely to the tooth to ensure no further bacterial infiltration.

Knowing how the natural tooth functions and dissipates stress can help us make the best decisions for restoring the structurally compromised tooth - whether we choose a direct stress reduced approach or an adhesive onlay, we can ensure the longterm security of the tooth and prevent any further unnecessary damage.
Searching nature…
Throughout the natural world we see extraordinary solutions to real problems - how do seemingly rigid structures bend and flex without cracking whilst at the same time maintaining their integrity?
Obviously there is a limit, but by optimal fibre arrangement, many natural structures are extremely tough and fracture resistant even under significant stress. Similarly we can now utilise this understanding of fibres to reinforce our restorations and provide protection to the underlying tooth - often in ways that prevent catastrophic failure and minimise further destruction of the tooth.
With my other co-founders in mimétika, we train other dentists in the best science-based protocols for bio-inspired advanced adhesive restorative dentistry. If you want to elevate your practice then don’t settle for anything less than éxcellence.
An early adopter of partial coverage adhesive overlays, I am seeing longterm clinical results of over 20 years for these non retentive preparations which have managed to maintain the structural integrity of the tooth in a less invasive way.
